Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, commonly known as the Bangalow Palm are the best known and most widely grown Australian native palm, from Tasmania to the tropics. Surprisingly cold tolerant the Archontophoenix cunninghamiana or Bangalow Palm do need regular watering in dry weather to keep the foliage lush and green. It gets tall quickly, with a dome of arching feathery fronds atop a slim grey trunk.

Light Requirements  

Part shade to part sun. (can tolerate full shade and full sun in the right conditions)

Outdoor 

Suitable for both. Indoor specimens require lots of bright light and high humidity.

Watering 

Water regularly in the warmer months, when overnight temperatures are consistently over 8-10 degrees C. Water less in winter .It’s often best when watering indoor plants in cooler months to just water the saucer under the plant to prevent fungus gnats and fungal diseases. Don’t leave plants sitting in water for more than 24 hours in winter. Unestablished plants and container specimens may require more frequent watering especially over summer.

Soil Type 

Rich fertile soil, good drainage is very important.

Fertilizing requirements 

Mid spring, mid summer, early Autumn. Container plants can be fertilised less often with a slow release formula like Osmocote. Seasol monthly.

Max and Minimum Temperature tolerance 

Established plants can take hard frosts down to approx-3 or 4. Young plants are more susceptible to dying from frost. Will experience some leaf damage from hard frosts and hot winds.
