Giant birds of paradise Strelitzia Nicolai is an ornamental evergreen, tall, palm like plant with large, broad leaves up 1.5m long. During spring and early summer, it bears unusual beak-like, blue and white flowers with deep purpler bracts. Giant birds of paradise / Strelitzia Nicolai Thrives in rich, moist well drained soil in a sunny to partly shaded position, with some protection from direct sun. Keep moist in dry weather.

Watering Requirements
Water regularly in the warmer months, when overnight temperatures are consistently over 8-10 degrees C. Water less in winter .It’s often best when watering indoor plants in cooler months to just water the saucer under the plant to prevent fungus gnats and fungal diseases. Don’t leave plants sitting in water for more than 24 hours in winter. Unestablished plants and container specimens may require more frequent watering especially over summer.

Soil Type
Rich moist soil with good drainage. Will grow in most soil types as long as there is adequate drainage

Fertilizing requirements
mid spring, mid summer, early autumn. Seasol monthly

Temperature
Established plants can take occasional hard frosts down to approx-3 or -4. Young plants are more susceptible to dying from frost. Will experience some leaf damage from hard frosts and hot winds.
