Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. It can also handle some direct sunlight, especially morning sun. Avoid placing it in harsh, direct midday sun, which may scorch the leaves.
Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Dragon Trees are drought-tolerant and prefer slightly dry conditions over being waterlogged. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent water from accumulating at the bottom.
Soil: Thrives in well-draining soil. Use a standard potting mix combined with perlite or sand to improve drainage. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent root rot.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding frequency in fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows. Avoid over-fertilizing as it can lead to salt buildup and leaf damage.
Pruning: Prune to remove any dead or damaged leaves to maintain a clean appearance. Cut back any unwanted growth to shape the plant and encourage bushier growth. Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C to 24°C (65°F to 75°F). It can tolerate temperatures as low as 10°C (50°F) but should be protected from frost and cold drafts.
Humidity: Prefers average indoor humidity but can adapt to a range of conditions. Increase humidity during dry winter months if the air is very dry by misting the plant or using a humidifier.
Pests and Diseases: Generally resistant to pests but watch for common issues such as spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
